I just heard a new sound sultan song called king of my country. It has a party song vibe to it, i guess he wants to get booked for shows more often now.
I am a big sound sultan fan, the reason why he appears on my blog, being a singer and all that is because he is more of a rapper than most of the wack rappers we have in Nigeria, but he doesn't appeal to the Nigerian populace.
Sound sultan, like a rapper, spits conscious lyrics. He educates, makes a lot of sense. It's the fact that he is political and spits a lot of knowledge, that get people to ignore his that a lot of people ignore his type of music.
People do not want to be reminded of the hard life they are going through. They'd rather listen to yahoozee, a song that celebrates internet fraudstars( I do not really condem that, neither am i a fan. I am just making a statement.).That is why someone like fela was never called to perform at parties, but he was and still is the biggest Nigerian musician Nigeria has ever had, internationally.
Sound sultan is on the same lane with the late fela kuti, i guess i know where he is going with it.
The thing that surprises me is, he has not deviated from his 3-4 albums so far. My brother is a big fan of his, and can relate to what he is saying in his songs. So can i.
He recently left kennis music, when his contract with hem expired, for naija ninjaz, a label partly owned by him, partly owned by his brother, baba dee, also an artist.
Watch out for his latest album, ss4, to hit stores anytime soon.
