It's not cheap to say 'I do.' In the U.S., the average wedding cost $33,900 in 2019, according to a study by The Knot. And brides spare no expenses on the dress: the price tag for the average wedding dress is $1,631 including alterations.

After growing frustrated with the dress hunt, bride-to-be Leslie Voorhees was ready to call it quits on finding the perfect trousseau.

"The prices were outrageously expensive, and I was just having a lot of trouble," she told Yahoo Finance. During that time, Voorhees, a mechanical engineer, traveled to China for work, and she stumbled upon an untapped supply chain of wedding dress seamstresses and tailors. She created a custom dress exactly like she envisioned.

That was the first step toward creating Anomalie, an online company founded by Voorhees to create custom-made bridal dresses.

How does it work? The bride signs up to the website, answers a few questions, and the design of her dream begins. The process from initial consultation to a finished dress takes a minimum of six months. The price for dresses starts around $1,200.

While that's not much less than the traditional wedding dress, Voorhees touts the ability for brides to get exactly what they want. "We work directly with really talented workshops and have operationalized a lot of the stylist capabilities to be scaled, you know, for thousands of customers," she said. "We've cut out the brick-and-mortar costs and the designer costs," she added.

The bride does not actually try on the dress until it has been shipped. "We send instructions on how to get measured," she said. "We've got really talented pattern makers at our workshops that understand custom measurements, so all of our dresses are made to order and made to measure. "

Anomalie does work with a tailor network around the U.S. that can fix any nips and tucks once the dress has been delivered.

"We work closely with thousands of brides and can understand and help deliver basically exactly what's in their head that they can't quite find in stores," Voorhees said.

Bride forced to order second wedding dress after the one she ordered online looks NOTHING like the photo - The Sun

Posted: 16 Feb 2020 07:23 AM PST

IF you've ever ordered anything online then chances are you'll know what it feels like when something arrives looking a little different to how it was advertised.

But while it's easy enough to laugh it off when it's an ill-fitting pair of jeans or when the colour isn't quite right, it's all together more stressful when the garment you're trying on is actually your wedding dress.

Unfortunately for one bride, this was the exact scenario she was faced with when her gown arrived from China.

On the website, the dress had a pretty lace cap-sleeve top and voluminous silk skirt.

But when it arrived, the bodice was totally sheer except for two wonky white circular patches covering her modesty. Not to mention the crumpled satin mini skirt and train.

Seeing the funny side of the fashion fail, the bride and her pal then shared it in the Facebook group That's It, I'm Wedding Shaming.

Left is what she ordered. Right is what she received. She found a new dress and it all turned out okay but what an online shopping FAIL!

Her pal wrote: "Shared with permission from this gorgeous gal. Although I've removed her face as a courtesy.

"Left is what she ordered. Right is what she received.

"She found a new dress and it all turned out okay but what an online shopping F A I L!"

However, other members of the group said the woman shouldn't have shopped online in the first place.

One replied: "There's a reason people pay thousands for wedding dresses. If it were possible to get a good one for 20 bucks, everyone would."

Another argued: "Ordering a wedding dress online really isn't wise. If it's super cheap, it will likely look it too."

For more wedding horror stories, this bride was horrified as her videographer adds scene from Miss Piggy's wedding as she walks down the aisle.

And this mother-of-the-bride demanded her ginger bridesmaid dye her hair for the wedding because it "clashed" with the dress.

Plus this mother-in-law wore a WEDDING DRESS to her son's big day - and people can't tell her apart from the bride.

Beauty expert tries on budget wedding dresses from ASOS - Daily Mail

A beauty blogger has tried on four budget wedding outfits from an online retailer to see whether she could find a high quality garment for a reasonable price - and she was very surprised by the results.

Tina Yong, who is based in Melbourne, Australia, got engaged to her groom Alfred in May 2019, with the couple due to wed this year, so she ordered a few garments off ASOS to see what was available on the cheaper side of the spectrum.

The 29-year-old was surprised to find that most of the dresses fit her petite figure and were made of a high quality material, proving that you don't need to spend thousands to achieve the look that you want.

Two of the gowns came in a dress bag with hangers, which was a nice touch that made Tina feel as though she was purchasing something important.

The bandeau-style wedding dress with a trumpet hem ($354.81) was the first one she tried on and sadly, it didn't leave the lasting impression Tina was after.

'I thought it would look more expensive that it does. There is a cheap sheen to the material and it makes me look a bit frumpy,' Tina said on YouTube

The dress didn't hold onto her waist or thighs the way it did on the model and it crinkled very easily when you moved around.

The second dress was far better with a lace halter and maxi fit ($284.45) because it had a fuller skirt and a more expensive feel to the fabric
'It's really comfortable and isn't too tight in any areas. I think it looks just like the model... there are no surprises,' she said

The third dress, a lace bandeau maxi dress in white for $128, was the cheapest of the bunch but didn't strike Tina as particularly budget-looking

Describing it as 'looking like a curtain' this was Tina's most disliked outfit of the bunch.

The only thing she would have changed about it was the lack of sequinned detailing around the waist, which would have matched nicely with the lace.

The final option was a $236.54 blazer paired with a pair of $202.11 trousers, both in a white glitter and sequin embellishment
'I think it looks chic and a bit different. The blazer is structured when it's actually on although the pants are a little loose on me,' she said

She said it hugged her figure nicely although the sleeves would restrict her from partying on the night of her wedding.

Tina suggested it as an option for those who don't like dresses or wanted to mix things up at the reception.
