The Ordinary Serum Foundation Review

Hello ladies,

“The Ordinary” is a skincare brand which is everything other than the ordinary. I have tested a few of their skin care products and really loved them. The brand has ventured further and has come up with two types of foundations – “full coverage” and “serum foundation,” about which the whole world is freaking out. These foundations are always out of stock and their’s a long 25,000 waitlist on their official website. I was lucky enough to get hold of the “serum foundation.” Now, let’s see whether this makeup foundation lived up to its hype.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation Review

Price:
$12.70 AUD for 30 ml.
Product Description:
Serum foundations are lightweight medium-coverage formulations available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations offer moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel. They are very low in viscosity and are dispensed with the supplied pump or with the optional glass dropper available for purchase separately if preferred.

The pigments used in this format are treated for a rich, highly-saturated effect. These pigments are suspended in our proprietary spreadability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines and stay on for longer. The foundations offer a semi-matte finish and are compatible with most primers and are designed to work exceptionally well with the primers offering from The Ordinary.

My Experience with The Ordinary Serum Foundation:

The serum foundation comes packaged in a dinky little transparent plastic bottle with a matte black cap which serves as a pump as well. The bottle is pretty tiny and extremely lightweight, which makes irt all the more travel friendly. There is also a outer black cardboard box which contains all the product details and ingredient list mentioned on it. The cap should be twisted open to use the pump dispenser to dispense the foundation and then it can be sealed back in. The packaging is pretty simple yet neat.

This product has an extensive shade range of 21 colors with almost 4 undertones option like P(pink) ,N(Neutral),Y(Yellow) and R(red). Each shade has a number and undertone letter to its name. For example, I chose the shade 3.0Y, which is a medium dark shade with yellow undertone. This range has a shade for everybody which is just great.

The foundation has SPF 15 protection and the SPF they provide is unique. It’s mineral based hence free from harsh chemicals that are typically found in common sunscreen formulas in the market. These foundations are also super-affordable like the rest of The Ordinary’s products. The product is enriched with a special pigment suspension technology that helps it go on smoothly with a highly saturated effect, and melts into the skin like butter.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation cap

This serum foundation lives up to its name with a serum-like texture with a runny consistency. The product is extremely lightweight and gives light coverage on the skin which can be built to medium coverage, but I am happy with the coverage as this foundation was designed to provide a skin-like effect which makes the base all the more natural and fresh. If you are after full coverage, then you need to try the other variant that they are offering. Actually, I wanted to pick the “full coverage” foundation as well, but it was out of stock.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation outer packaging

The foundation gives a satin matte finish on the skin which looks beautiful, almost like a “no makeup, fresh skin.” The product does feel like a moisturising serum, but prepping the skin is a must. Your skin has to be super moisturized as the foundation does seem to highlight dry patches.

Staying power is around 5 to 6 hours which is pretty decent. This foundation oxidizes a bit; actually, I got a shade lighter which looked a bit ashy on me, but as the foundation settled, it oxidized and matched my skin tone correctly. So, if you are planning to try this foundation, opt for a shade lighter than your actual color.
