At the Cannes Film Festival archival pieces proved the surest way to make an entrance and a pointed fashion statement. After portraying Sharon Tate onscreen in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Margot Robbie dug into the Chanel archives and chose a look that echoed Tate's modish personal style: a gamine, a-line mini dress paired with crystal embroidered leggings from spring 2011 couture collection. Robbie delivered a thoughtful homage rather than retro mimicry. Likewise when Cannes' doyenne Isabelle Huppert returned to the festival carpet to mark her first English-language entry in competition since 1980 she did so in clothes that reflected her role. In Ira Sachs's Frankie, Huppert's movie star character tackles the complexities of fame. So for the film's premiere the actress dressed as matinee idol in a vibrant and glamorous dress of reflective paillettes by Armani Privé. But not all eye-popping fashion need be made-to-measure. At the launch of her Fenty Paris pop-up store and the debut of her LVMH-partnered collection, Rihanna paired a tan anorak and mini-skirt that managed to be utilitarian and sultry. The annual amfAR's gala at Cannes usually means ballgowns galore, but model Adesuwa Aighewi gave the event much needed edge in Danish-South Korean designer's Hyun Mi Nielsen's eyelet dress. And the original rule-breaker Chloë Sevigny looked utterly smashing in a full Marine Serre ensemble for her final day at Cannes.  |
| Chicago pastor accused of abusing girls during tutoring sessions - WTVR CBS 6 News Posted: 27 May 2019 01:23 PM PDT  CHICAGO — A Chicago pastor is facing multiple charges of child sexual abuse as prosecutors allege he abused two young girls inside of his home during tutoring sessions. As a pastor at the Good Shepherd church of Chicago, prosecutors said 51-year-old Jeffrey Parks presented himself as a man of faith who helped children learn. But behind closed doors, they alleged the pastor was a predator. Parks was arrested after being identified as the man who abused two children on multiple occasions, according to police, and is now facing charges of felony predatory criminal assault of a victim under 13, and felony aggravated criminal abuse of a victim under 13. A judge ordered parks to be held on $100,000 bond, saying he was concerned about the alleged crimes and the young ages of the victims. In Cook County court Sunday, Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Bucci outlined the alleged crimes, saying Parks molested twin sisters who were supposed to be receiving help with their math homework. The mother of the girls signed them up for math tutoring, and sessions took place in Parks's apartment for a seven-month period between September 2018 and February of this year. It was only this month, when the girls' mother spoke with them about the dangers of unwanted physical contact, that they brought up Parks' alleged behavior. He is alleged to have touched their thighs and private parts both over their clothes and underneath them. Parks was arrested just after 9 p.m. Friday by police in Hyde Park, where he lives, and will appear in court again next week as he faces multiple counts of felony sex crimes.  |

SUBSCRIBE/ Updated By Janelle Griffith The search continued Monday for a 5-year-old girl in Utah who was reported missing over the weekend, and police have identified her uncle as the "main suspect" in her disappearance. Family members told police Elizabeth Shelley, of Logan, was last seen at 2 a.m. on Saturday when her mother went to bed. When she woke up at about 9:30 a.m., Elizabeth was gone, as was her uncle, Alex Whipple, 21, who had visited the house Friday night, the Logan Police Department said. Logan is about 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. Whipple, who police have said is the main suspect, was later found walking around the northern Utah city alone and was arrested Saturday. Police said he continued to be uncooperative and was booked into the Cache County Jail on a probation violation. "The unfortunate thing is that we have all the adults accounted for," Logan police Capt. Tyson Budge told NBC affiliate KSL in Salt Lake City Saturday. "So obviously, conclusion is that she's in a lot of danger." Whipple was in possession of "certain items," such as clothing, that authorities believe indicates the uncle "was with her after he said he was," Budge told the outlet. He also was in possession of "drug paraphernalia," the police captain said at a brief news conference on Monday. Authorities have said they could not release more information on Elizabeth's disappearance, citing an ongoing investigation. "We know there are many who want to help and there are some who think they are helping by posting their concern about the perceived details of this investigation," the Logan Police Department said in a tweet. "They do not have all the information because we cannot release everything pertinent to the investigation." The FBI is assisting in the search for Elizabeth. In a statement read at the Monday news conference, Elizabeth's family said they were "overwhelmed, sad and scared." They thanked law enforcement and search volunteers for their efforts, adding that they "continue to hope for the safe return of our sweet girl, Lizzie." Elizabeth is 3 feet 6 inches with shoulder-length curly brown hair and has choppy bangs and brown eyes.  |
