{Knock off} Anthropologie B & W Hooks

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I was working on a knock off project that I was so excited about. After I posted about my excitement I quickly realized that not everyone will be as excited and enthusiast about this project as I am. If that is the case, I apologize for the let down, but think you're crazy for not thinking this knock off is amazing. I am just that in love with this project.

With that out of the way, let's get to the knock off!

I tend to be cheap, okay I am cheap when it comes to many things. I love shopping at Goodwill and thrift stores, especially on a holiday when everything is 50% off. You bet I was there on Labor day searching and digging through all the crap to find a few gems. I could not believe it when I saw a set of two hooks that I had been searching for. What are the chances?

I've been searching for these exact hooks for months with no luck. You see, I've been obsessed (okay, maybe that's a strong word) about the Anthropologie B & W hooks. I would have bought them months ago, but at $18.00 a hook I knew I could make them for much less. I found a similar hook at Home Depot, but it wasn't the correct shape and they were still more than what I wanted to spend on a knock off project. These hooks my friends, were perfect!

They are almost identical and at a fraction of the price, I couldn't be more thrilled.

To transform the boring white hooks into the Antrho hooks I started by removing the white porcelain pieces from the metal hook. I washed and dried them well before using frog tape to tape off the stripes.

I made sure to peel the tape off before they dried, but I still had spots where the tape bled through or peeled off. In those areas I just used my nail to scrap off any excess paint and touched up the other spots. They are not perfect, but I wasn't really going for perfect.

To make sure the paint didn't rub or peel off I applied two coats of polyurethane and let them dry overnight. I also applied a small amount of gold leaf rub 'n buff to distress the metal a bit. The next day I couldn't wait to get them up on the wall. I plan on using them in the mudroom, but for now they found a home in my bedroom.

They look great hanging behind my bedroom door and are the perfect spot to store my favorite scarves and purse.

While I was installing the hooks I took the opportunity to clean my room. It's been a total disaster since working on my daughter's room and coming back from vacation. I despise unpacking, so instead of putting everything away, I threw it in my room. For the past few weeks I had been tripping over bags and bins and finally got fed up with the mess. It's amazing how much calmer you feel when your room is clean and your bed is made.

You may recognize the arrow art that I recently made and had hanging in the basement. The metal "A" was a HomeGoods clearance find that I painted navy. The Reader's Digest books are from Goodwill and have always been my favorite go-to decorating item. I must have about 20 of them in various colors throughout my house.
